Hygie is going green!
Hygie Canada cares to offer alternatives which are ecologically sound.

The Care Bag hygienic bags are now offered in a version that is oxo-biodegradable.
The new oxo-biodegradable hygienic bag has the same features than the original version, but it has the advantage of being respectful of the environment. This type of bag allows a reduction of up to 50% of the volume of buried waste by releasing imprisoned air and by minimising the formation of methane. In the presence of microorganisms, it will fragment and will bio-degrade.

The principle of oxo-biodegradation:
The plastic (polyethylene) is not naturally bio-degradable. A prodegradant agent is introduced in the mix during production. This prodegradant agent changes the behaviour of the plastic and makes it oxo-biodegradable. By favouring the breakdown of the chemical structure of carbon and hydrogen which compose the material, the plastic becomes oxidised by exposure to UV and heat, and it loses its mechanical properties, breaks into fragments, becomes hydrophilic and ceases to be a plastic. Its light molecular weight makes it bio-degradable and is easily assimilated.

The use of a prodegradant agent does not induce negative effects on the properties of the plastic such as the quality, opacity, water resistance, or resistance of the plastic film. The film is suited for damp waste.
